Before and After

CHALK PAINTS have arrived!

We are looking forward to
teaching classes
on "Chalk Paint"

what it is...

how to paint with it...

how to have some fun with it!

I finished our first piece
in the store,
it turned out better than imagined!

here's the before...

this oak book shelf had been painted a couple
of times over the years.
I uncovered white under the high gloss brown...

After just scraping off any loose paint chips,
I started painting with chalk paint.
Two coats (just because I'm a painter
and I think everything needs 2 coats!)
One coat probably would have been sufficient...
I decided to paint the backs of some of the cubbies
an off-white, just to give the piece a little character
(as if it needed any more!)
after it dried overnight, I came back and
started sanding.
De-stress or Distress
call it what you may...
on this big piece, I used my electric sander
to gradually uncover the undercoat color.
It's all a matter of opinion,
sand a little or sand a lot.
I stopped when I thought it looked good to me...
it looked distressed,
and I felt De-stressed!

What a great piece...functional and gorgeous!!
