Memory Frames

Here at The Prairie Preservationist
we come across out-dated items
and try to think of ways to make them useful
and beautiful again...

(Letters & Lace Blog post on Sall's Country Life)

when this over-sized ugly yellow pine frame,
and a pile of tattered and stained linens came in
we supplied a little bit of new Tim Holtz fabric
and some black Old Towne chalk-style paint
and "VOILA!"

A beautiful Vintage Memory Frame
to display old pictures, postcards, letters
jewelry, etc....

A Fun project piece of art.
Now on our
list of future workshops!

Look for this one of kind piece at our store soon
and listed on our new Website

Hittin' The Bottle Class Night

 Some glass bottles
are just too pretty
to throw out...

Why DO they put whiskey
in such pretty bottles anyway??

We had fun
turning empty
glass bottles into
works of art...

With a little paint,
a new label,
and a little ribbon...

the transformation
is quite
impressive...

We had a good time
"Hittin' the Bottle"
with our paint, brushes
and
creative minds!

You don't need to be 21
to be artistic!

Uniquely Chalked

The first of many classes were held this week...

20 fun gals all showed up
eager to learn about
CHALK-style painting...

We opened up a few paint jars
and the fun began...

the creativity in the room was
mind-blowing..

and they all said they
had NO talent???
Come on!

We provided the supplies
and some scraps,
and they each made a masterpiece!

No TWO were exactly alike!!

A fun evening of
painting and "de-stressing"

it doesn't get much better than that!

Oh, and you get to take home
a cute new Halloween picture!

Want in on the fun??
Join us Tuesday October 20th
we're having 2 classes...
1:30 in the afternoon
and 6:30 in the evening.
Call or stop in for more details

Before and After

CHALK PAINTS have arrived!

We are looking forward to
teaching classes
on "Chalk Paint"

what it is...

how to paint with it...

how to have some fun with it!

I finished our first piece
in the store,
it turned out better than imagined!

here's the before...

this oak book shelf had been painted a couple
of times over the years.
I uncovered white under the high gloss brown...

After just scraping off any loose paint chips,
I started painting with chalk paint.
Two coats (just because I'm a painter
and I think everything needs 2 coats!)
One coat probably would have been sufficient...
I decided to paint the backs of some of the cubbies
an off-white, just to give the piece a little character
(as if it needed any more!)
after it dried overnight, I came back and
started sanding.
De-stress or Distress
call it what you may...
on this big piece, I used my electric sander
to gradually uncover the undercoat color.
It's all a matter of opinion,
sand a little or sand a lot.
I stopped when I thought it looked good to me...
it looked distressed,
and I felt De-stressed!

What a great piece...functional and gorgeous!!
